Take The Stress Out Of Scuba Diving

Allow me to take the stress and possible anxiety out of your next diving experience. If you have been scuba diving with me before or even if we have never met, I am a calm and relaxed dive guide that will adjust my guiding style to your needs.

If you are a new diver and need a bit of extra help getting underwater we can take it nice and slowly and i can go over some of the basics that may be a little hazy from your original course.

If you are an experienced diver with a camera who wants to go nice and slowly to take lots of photographs i can tailor my speed to match what you need and find you lots of macro life.

Whatever your needs may be, i have seen it all before and can certainly make your next dive an enjoyable one.

A Bad Dive Guide Will Ruin Your Dive

Your first dive with a new dive guide after you qualify can be an eye opening and daunting experience. That first experience after your course can be the end of many new divers foray into the sport of scuba diving. I have had countless divers tell me that they had a bad experience years ago and have not been back in the water since.

The guide swam off, pulled me down while i was having ear trouble and a whole heap of different problems that could have been easily avoided with a bit of simple coaching and patience on the part of the guide.

New Divers

For new divers with very little experience organizing a dive can be daunting. For the first dives you do after your Open Water course i would always recommend diving with a guide. However when you book a trip it you will often be lumped into a group of divers that may not be at your level. This can leave you feel a pressure to perform and you may not be comfortable with this. I have found that new divers that are put in these situations end up often dropping out of the sport all together.

Some common problems that occur without a professional guide include:

  • Forgetting the buddy check steps
  • Overweighting
  • Trouble equalising
  • Dangerous dive profiles
  • Lack of bouyancy control
  • General confusion

Experienced Divers

I am an experienced diver and i know what it is like to book a fun dive and end up sweating underwater while trying to keep up with the guide who has no idea where they are going but they are determined to get to said location as fast as possible. It is infuriating.

I have also met many experienced divers while working as a guide who look at me skeptically when we first meet to go through our dive briefing, praying that I don’t get into the water and zoom off around the dive site at a million miles per hour.

Frustrations that commonly occur when an experienced diver has a bad guide include:

  • Being guided too fast
  • Not being able to stop to take photos or appreciate marine life
  • Poor dive profiles leading to air being used faster than needed
  • Broken mouthpiece and a sore throat for screaming in dispair and biting down too hard

What To Expect From A Quality Dive Guide

Watching a good dive guide will probably make you think that this proffesional diving business is easy. However it isn’t that simple. There is a reason and a thought process behind every detail of a good dive. From the briefing to the descent and then ascending and returning to the boat or shore. Every part of a dive should be tailored to suit the ability of you the customer.

Before The Dive

From the moment we meet and begin to discuss the dives to come, i will be judging every word you say. (In the nicest way possible). I will aim to find out as much as possible about your past dive experiences and any concerns you may have.

Equipment Set-Up

Often divers will forget how to set up their equipment. If this is you then don’t worry. I am judging you as we have already established, however i am there to help and guide you through the process. Ultimately i want to leave you with better knowledge and capabilities when you leave.

Dive Briefing

My dive briefings don’t sound like a terms and conditions list at the end of a TV commercial. We will have a conversation about the dive and come up with a plan of action. We will discuss your needs further, things like:

  • How we are entering and exiting.
  • Our maximum depth
  • Descending techniques
  • The route we are taking and what we expect to see
  • Environmental considerations
  • Emergency procedures
  • Anything specific you want to get from the dive such as photographs

In The Water

When we enter the water we will go at a pace that suits you. I promise not to descend into the blue and stare up at you while you figure it out on your own. We descend as a team and we dive as a team.

The dive will be slow and steady and we will take the time to observe all aspects of the dive site as we go.

We will follow our dive computers instructions and maintain a smooth dive profile until we reach our safety stop.
