The go-to place for diving

I did my Advanced Open Water Diver Certification with the Andaman Dive Adventure Team. I came here on recommendation and now want to pass the word. Safety is here on top of the list, equipment is state of the art, groups are small (3 to max. 4 people per guide). I had the luck to have Chris Facey all to myself for most of the course and fun dives afterwards. If you would google “Perfect dive instructor” Chris’ profile should come up first. Chris will make you feel comfortable from the first second on and will guide you well informed and safe through your underwater adventure. The dive spots are beautiful. I have been to Koh Ma and Koh Bida, especially Koh Ma was impressive.

Could not have been better!

We had a tremendous experience with the team at Andaman Dive. They were really well organised, very helpful, really nice to deal with and most of all experienced and safe. We would recommend them to anyone wanting to learn to dive off Koh Lanta. A special mention has to go to Chris, our instructor. He was really thoughtful, encouraging and easy to learn from. He was a superb teacher and a lovely guy too. Chris made the whole experience really easy. A big shout out also goes to Bart who took us on our last two dives. He really came up trumps….. on our last dive we swam within a couple of metres of a whale shark! What a result, a great memory to take away.

Diving with Chris - a pleasure!

As somebody who gets easily flustered and anxious, I never thought I’d be able to pass the Open Water course - and it was only possible thanks to Chris.

He’s everything an instructor should be: calm, patient and kind. He quelled my panic and always reassured me that I was capable, he believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself and went the above and beyond the expectations of an instructor. He never gave up or made me feel like I was failing, and adapted his teaching so I could go at my own pace.

On the boat, he gave me headphones and a meditation app so I could calm my anxiety, and talked me out of giving up when I felt defeated. Chris genuinely cared about my safety and happiness, and I will be forever grateful that he persevered and encouraged me to get back in the water each time I wanted out.

The boat was clean, spacious and well equipped - with an excellent breakfast and lunch provided. The Thai staff couldn’t do enough for you, and recognised that I needed more support than a more experienced diver would.

The dives themselves were incredible, and I’m so happy I got the chance to see turtles munching on coral, lobsters, snakes, and a plethora of beautiful fish and coral.

I would highly recommend diving with these guys, and once again want to give a special recommendation to Chris. I’m truly blown away by his upmost professionalism and skill.

If I ever go back to Koh Lanta, I would 100% come back here.

I was initially going to do my Open Water Certification in Koh Lipe but after speak to a few other travellers in Koh Lanta I was advised to do it with Adaman Dive Adventures.

I spoke with Lee who gave me all the information I needed and got me booked in straight away. The next day I was with Lisa who was so knowledgable and helpful in the classroom and also the afternoon pool session.

I was fortunate enough to have the remainder of the Open Water course with Chris Facey. Chris has a wealth of knowledge and experience and such a cool and calm demeanour that any worries about the dive were washed away immediately. His professionalism and attention to detail in the dive briefs and most importantly health and safety were exceptional, I honestly don’t think I could have been in safer hands which just added to the enjoyment of my first dive. As soon as I surfaced from my first dive I immediately asked him to book me into the Advanced Open Water!! Chris guided me through the next steps and was even kind enough to lend me his own GoPro so that I could complete one of the modules, he even went out and got me a new microSD ready to use for the next day, going above and beyond any expectations I had from an already exceptional experience. What a guy! I sincerely hope I get to dive with him again somewhere else along the line.

If you want to dive in Koh Lanta use Adaman Dive Adventures!! Look no further, I promise you will have the best time! The equipment is top quality, the boat is clean and very well maintained, all of the staff are super professional and the boat crew were in a class of their own. They ensured we were safe getting in and out of the water and also prepared delicious breakfast and lunches every day!

When I come back to Koh Lanta I want to do my Dive Master course with them and I hope that Chris Facey will still be here to help me complete another certification.

Thank you to all of the Adaman Dive Adventure team, you have literally helped me open the door to another world in the ocean and possibly a new career path, one I had not even considered before.

My diving experience with Andaman exceeded my expectations in every aspect! 😍

I did my open water and advanced open water course with Chris. He was extremely knowledgeable and I felt very safe at all times. His positive attitude, calm charisma and helpful advise made diving so easy!

The boat and equipment is very clean, food was amazing and the boat staff was professional at all times. Also, the dive sites were beyond beautiful and communication with Lisa & Lee back in the office always went smoothly.

I can not recommend this diving school and Chris as instructor enough. I’m definitely trying to go back again. Thank you for everything guys! 😊

We really enjoyed our time at ADA, especially with our instructor Chris. He taught us from complete beginners to Open Water Advanced within 6 days. There was no pressure and he genuinly loves what he does. All the other instructors as well as the Thai boat staff are super lovely people and very conceirned with our safety and wellbeing. If you come to Lanta, definately go dive with them.

I’m now Open Water certified thanks to Hidden Depths!

We chose Hidden Depths for our PADI Open Water certification because it was listed on the PADI site as a Five Star IDC/CDC shop. I had done a Discovery dive before but my boyfriend had never even snorkeled. The Hidden Depths team is very knowledgeable and made the whole process so easy and FUN! We did the PADI e-learning ahead of time, which condensed our course in Koh Lanta down to three days - one day of skills training, and then 4 dives over the next two days.

Our instructor was Chris Facey and it was really obvious he knows what he's talking about, and could adjust to the comfort-level of his students. He was super cool, made us feel safe, and also seemed to know every type of fish we saw, so it really felt like we had a personal tour guide under water. Can't rave about him enough - he even recommended a tattoo shop for us to go and commemorate our certification!

Best dive centre in South East Asia

Hidden Depths is the best dive center I’ve been to around Southeast Asia. Incredibly professional and caring crew, delicious breakfast by the pier with a view... great vibe!
I must make a special remark to my formidable dive instructor, Chris Facey. This guy will tell you everything from sea life hunting habits to marine fun facts such as finger-snapping punching-shrimps. He's an aquaticpedia. Eagle eyed and owner of the smoothest frog kicks around, he will show you all the animal life there is to see.
Local at Yai block, might even arrange a color-shifting octopus to put on a show for you.
Overall Chris inspires confidence and excitement. Super professional and cool guy to be around. Felt absolutely safe and taken care of all through my OW course.

The perfect mix of a smiling, friendly and helpful team and 100% professionalism!

I had better add at this point, that we both fall into the "Older" diver category, with myself having first dived in the early 1980's, and have since racked up many dives all over the world, and Hidden Depths is right up there amongst the best dive centres and best trained teams I have come across.
As mentioned, we are of mature years, as my free Bus Pass will confirm, and am fairly bonkers, whilst my Wife Rosalind has a wrecked knee from too much sliding down mountains on that white stuff. So poor Chris our instructor, drew the short straw, and looked after us for the whole five days.
As I said, we had to do nothing on the boat, apart from eat and take on fluids, whilst Chris quickly assumed the role of our Adoptive Mother, taking Rosalind's kit into the water and helping her into it at the start of each dive , and reversing the procedure at the end of each dive, so that she did not put any strain on her knee.
He also of course had to look after me, who in his old age just hums quietly to himself when under water, and is just in a very happy place, which meant that poor Chris had always to keep half an eye out for me, as I had a tendency to disappear into a world of my own. This Chris managed brilliantly.
So to sum up, if you are considering diving in Koh Lanta, make sure you choose Hidden Depths.

A legendary dive to remember!

King Arthur. Abraham Lincoln. Joan of Arc. Archimedes. Oprah. Dive Instructor Chris Facey of Hidden Depths Diving. What do all of these people have in common? The real question to ask, is what sets them apart. They are all visionaries, leaders, and creaters of greatness to mark the history of humankind. But only one of them is a master of the underwater world, a courageous explorer of the ocean's "hidden" depths who swims not away but towards even the most fearsome creatures, such as black tipped sharks or parrotfish. No I'm not talking about Oprah (close, nonetheless), I'm referring to ChrisFacey, our dive instructor at Hidden Depths. If there's one thing I can wholeheartedly recommend to do before you die, it is to dive with him.

His twinkling blue eyes hold their own against the most impressive coral reefs, and his soothing British accent will make you think you're learning the basics of a regulator or SPG from Her Majesty herself. Among certain circles he is known as Gandalf of the Deep, Yoda of the Sea. His wisdom of the ocean can rival even the most detailed Wikipedia page, and his underwater speed and agility would make even the most coordinated dolphin blush. The man himself: Mr. Chris Facey. Learn to dive, nay, fly with him!

Absolutely brilliant!

We chose Hidden Depth when my wife (62yrs old) wanted to upgrade to open water, after being let down by another group in Koh Lanta, and we are very, very glad we did.
The professionalism and skills of the dive instructor (Chris) was first class, I could not recommend them highly enough, if you wish to get certified while on holiday on Koh Lanta, this the place to go.
Many, many thanks to all of the staff for the assistance that they gave my wife after being so let down by others.
I might add that the boat diving with them was also brilliant
Again many, many thanks

Diving with the best!

Chris, Jasmin, Lisa and the whole Andaman Dive crew helped create a lasting memory for my family. Lisa was super patient with my many questions in the lead up, Jasmin fantastic in the classroom, and Chris was a fantastic instructor in the pool and on our open water dives. He kept us all calm and really helped to build our confidence. I was particularly impressed with his ability to explain things to suit me and each of the kids. Thanks team. Most appreciated. Would recommend Chris and Andaman Diving in a heartbeat.

Bear Grylls Adventure Shark Dive

Upon arriving at the Dive centre, we were met by Chris Facey, our diving instructor for the day. He welcomed us into the briefing room, which was, just like the rest of the attraction, nicely themed. We completed a brief but important safety document relating to our health, to ensure that we were in tip top condition to do the actual dive. Thankfully, we passed (hurrah) and could proceed!

After the four people in the group had finished the questionnaire, Chris gave us a quick Yes/No test, which included some basic questions on diving. Even if you had never dived, like myself and my partner, you'd be able to answer the question as it was a case of simple common sense. That said, Chris was a fountain of knowledge, so if you genuinely were unsure of any questions / facts, he'd have helped in any case!
Chris then proceeded to show us the diving equipment that we would be using during the dive, and explained fully what each individual piece did, and what it's job was. I was interested in this segment, as this was the stuff that would keep us alive when under the water. As they say, you have to trust your equipment. so it was important to listen and comprehend the information being relayed. Chris had a knack of explaining everything in an interesting manner, and at no point did I feel as though I was in a lesson / lecture. He managed to convey the important points whilst keeping things interesting and exciting, which I feel is important for this sort of activity. Whilst there was a lot of information to relay, it didn't take that long to complete, and we were soon off to the changing rooms to get into our wet suits.

We were each assigned a changing cubicle (complete with shower), and inside was a wet suit in our size, as well as boots. A quick rinse off (ensuring that all hair products and such were removed) and squeezing into the wet suits, we were ready to go into the tank. This is where things began to get real!

At this point, I was INCREDIBLY nervous. I've been on all sorts of roller coasters, rides, attractions, scare mazes, high ropes courses and more, and never felt that nervous. However, this diving was something that got my nerves going. Whilst I had a feeling of excitement, I was also incredibly apprehensive, even before getting into the tank. As I am a glasses wearer, I was nervous about not being able to see anything when in the water, but the staff were accommodating and worked with me to allow me to wear my glasses until the very last moment. I'm grateful for this as I really am blind without them!

Getting into the tank, I was the last to join the group of four (including me). However, we had two instructors - Chris and Jasmine, so the group was split in half, each with one of the instructors. Myself and my partner were with Chris, and he began to show us once more how to use the regulator (the breathing mouthpiece / apparatus) in two different tasks.
The first was taking your first breath underwater, and resting on your knees. This was a HUGE challenge for myself, as I had to tell myself it was perfectly safe. This is where Chris really showed how competent he was at instructing. He spoke with me, one on one, and ensured I was doing it correctly, but more importantly, that I was totally comfortable with using the regulator. I struggled at first, but he allowed me an extra couple of go's which I was grateful for.
The next task was to recover the regulator, should it ever come out of your mouth during the dive. I was truly terrified of this part, but again, Chris demonstrated in a clear and concise manner, how to complete this safely. I had to ask him to repeat it, of which he did without issue. I was impressed with how clear his hand signs were - he worked methodically and slowly to ensure that we comprehended each individual step, with each demonstration starting with the 3 hand gestures of "You. Watch. Me", followed by him completing each step. I was thankful of his ability to relay the actions we needed to complete, underwater, to complete novices, in a way that we understood. Thankfully, I managed to complete it satisfactorily, and retrieved my regulator, much to my amazement! To say I had a sense of achievement after this would be an understatement! Chris fist bumped me to show that I'd done it correctly, and at that point, I felt like I could actually do this dive AND enjoy it!

We then entered the actual tank itself, and headed down a short flight of metal stairs. I was the first to enter, with Chris facing me whilst descending. After each step, we had to equalise our ears to ensure the pressure was correct. This involved holding your nose and blowing out, much like you do on a plane or when travelling up / down a mountain. Nice and easy, I reached the bottom, and the rest of the group followed.
My partner had an issue in which his ears were causing him some pain, and Chris kept him calm, and attempted to resolve the situation. Jasmine took him back up the steps, and proceeded to walk him through the proper equalising method and steps, and a couple of minutes later he joined us on the floor of the tank, all sorted. During this time, he was feeling uneasy and this was visible to see. Chrisand Jasmine kept him calm and relaxed, something that was really beneficial to us all.

The exploration of the tank itself consisted of walking a set, pre-defined route. It took us from the back of the tank, up the right hand side, through the giant jaws that were directly in front of the viewing window I mentioned above, and through a ship wreck. We stopped at various points to get a good view of the sea life within the tank, and I was absolutely blown away by what I could see! Somehow, even without my glasses, I could see just fine! The sharks swam directly above without a care in the world, and the fish got really close to us. At many points, they glided directly over our heads, close enough to touch (however it's crucial to remember that touching anything whilst diving is strictly forbidden, not only for your own benefit, but for that of the nature / wildlife / sea life). Zig zagging through the tank, I saw so many new fish I'd never seen before, and Chris (the front leader during the dive itself) relayed hand signs to indicate which fish was which. Some of them were comical (puffer fish), others rather practical (Angel fish), and his ability to relay these to us without words was brilliant!

We spent around 20 minutes under the water, which I felt was a lengthy period of time. I could have spent all day down there, as it really was an exciting and immersive experience, and hands down the best activity I have done to date. Of all the theme parks, all the rides, and all the attractions I have ever completed, this dive was THE number one thing I've ever done. I firmly believe that this is down to the competent, clear, concise teaching Chris provided, whilst retaining the fun factor. He had a charm that was inviting, and the way he spoke with us was that of a friend rather than a teacher. I believe that this was the reason we felt calm and at ease with our first dive, as he was speaking with us as though we were friends / people rather than customers. The rest of the staff at the attraction and activities speak in a way that portrays a "survival" sort of voice, that gets you in the mood for a tough, rough and muddy adventure. I think if the dive team spoke in this same style, not only would the charm be lost, but it would also not make for a calming experience. I'm glad that this wasn't the case!

Jasmine also allowed us to capture our adventure under the water by swimming with the Go Pro that was recording us. I'm waiting on the footage, but I'm sure it'll be a brilliant video, so a massive thanks to Jasmine for this!

All in all, we had an absolutely FANTASTIC time at the Bear Grylls Adventure, and cannot wait to return. We are already planning our next dive, and have looked into taking this up as a hobby. It left us feeling incredibly invigorated and alive, and Chris Facey is the man to thank for this. He's an incredibly competent instructor, with a fantastic ability to keep you calm and at ease, whilst ensuring that you are having this "once in a lifetime" activity, full of excitement and adventure. Chris, you're the man!
